Petra Martic looks to get some solid minutes under her belt before the start of the 2021 Australian Open as she meets Vera Lapko in the second round of the 2021 WTA Yarra Valley Classic. Will Martic show us her amazing movement around the court, and dominate this match, or will an upset be on the cards?
Petra Martic is a very exciting player to watch, and although she might not be as well renound as other women on the WTA Tour, whenever you come up against her, you know it is going to be a very tough match. Martic always runs after every ball and she is known for making her opponents nearly always play one more shot, which allows her to win a lot of points off of unforced errors from her opponents. Martic did not really shine in 2020, but I am sure that she is looking to make 2021 her best season yet. Will Petra Martic come out in strong fashion here at the Yarra Valley Classic, or will it take her a few matches to get to her best tennis?
Vera Lapko came through a very tough first round match against Shvedova, where Lapko went one set down, only to be able to fight back and win the match in the third set 4-6/6-2/6-4. Lapko was able to outlast her opponent, who once she went ahead, took the match a bit too lightly. Lapko is a fighter and she will fight until the end of every match, therefore she is a very dangerous player to come up against. Will Martic take her too lightly as well in the second round?
This is going to be the first meeting between both players. Petra Martic is just levels above Lapko in my opinion, and she is going to take this match in her hands early on. Martic will wear down her opponent with her relentless ball striking and long rally points. This match is going to be a good indicator of how Petra Martic’s season is going to go down here in Australia, and in my opinion it is going to be a positive Australian swing for Martic.
