Serena Williams looks to get her game up to speed before the start of the 2021 Australian Open as she meets Daria Gavrilova in the second round of the 2021 WTA Yarra Valley Classic on Monday, February 1st 2021. Will Williams put on another solid performance as she did days ago at the ‘A Day at the Drive’ exhibition tournament, or will we see a shocking upset here?
Serena Williams looks on top of her game as she beat Naomi Osaka at the ‘A Day at the Drive’ and now comes into the second round here at the WTA Yarra Valley Classic. Williams had a bad 2020 season, struggling with confidence, injury, and consistency, however, we expect her to come out extremely strong here in 2021 looking to finally win the record equalling Grand Slam which she has been biding for years but has continuously fallen short. Williams knows that nothing comes easy in the WTA anymore as the competition if extremely fierce nowadays, but if anyone is up for the task, it is Serena.
Daria Gavrilova absolutely destroyed Kuzmova in her first round match, delivering a 6-2 first set win, and finish it off with a 6-0 bagel. Gavrilova is ranked 453 in the world and she is definitely shocking us all with that sort of performance in the first round. It will be interesting to see whether Gavrilova can cause one of the biggest upsets of the year against the legend which is Serena Williams in the second round.
This is going to be the third meeting between both players, with Serena Williams leading the head to head 2-0. If Serena Williams performs as she did at the ‘A Day at the Drive’ exhibition match against Naomi Osaka, I would expect her to run away with this match and show us that she is going to be a real contender for both this title, and for the Australian Open next week. I expect this to be a straight sets victory for the 23-time Grand Slam Champion as she moved into the third round of the WTA Yarra Valley Classic.
