The young Italian superstar, Jannik Sinner, looks to make his mark on the 2021 season as he begins his ATP Tour campaign here at the Great Ocean Road Open. Will Sinner continue to skyrocket up the rankings and show us that he is going to play a big part in the future of tennis, or will Aleksandar Vukic stop the momentum going right from the get-go?
Jannik Sinner had an incredible 2020, winning his first ATP Tour title, making his first Grand Slam quarterfinal against Rafael Nadal at the 2020 French Open, and rising up in the top 50 in the rankings. Sinner is the real deal, he is a prodigy which is showing us that he is going to become a top 10 player in the next couple of years no doubt. Sinner has a beautiful serve, a solid and consistent backhand, and a powerful and pin point accurate forehand. Sinner is going to keep going up in the rankings, and I would not be shocked if next year he will not be playing these tournaments prior to the Australian Open, but rather he will be a pivotal member of Team Italy at the ATP Cup. Will Sinner be able to make the later rounds here at the Great Ocean Road Open and potentially reach a second title in his young career?
Aleksandar Vukic beat Yen-Hsun Lu in his first round match in two tight sets 6-4/7-5. Vukic is not a well known player at all and is really just a local talent who was able to swing his way into this tournament. Vukic knows he was even lucky to get given a good first round draw, but now he has to drastically improve his game. Can Vukic cause a very shocking upset against one of tennis’ best and most promising talents in Jannik Sinner?
This is going to be the first meeting between both players. I would expect it to be a back and forth match in terms of momentum, as both players look to get their feet stuck into the surface and playing styles, but once the going gets tough, I cannot go against Jannik Sinner. Sinner is a superstar and he is going to continue rising up the rankings. The young Italian will be the future of tennis alongside the names of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, and many more, and 2021 is going to be an even better season for the youngster. Jannik Sinner to win.
