Sofia Kenin, the defending 2020 Australian Open Champion, looks to ensure she is at her best before the start of the 2021 Australian Open as she meets Camilla Giorgi in the second round of the 2021 WTA Gippsland on Tuesday, February 2nd 2021. Will Kenin be able to get her game back to its peak, or will we see the young star struggle to maintain the consistency required to be an elite WTA player?
Sofia Kenin is one of the most determined, relentless, and passionate players in the WTA Tour, and I am sure she is going to be a very tough person to beat for many years to come. Kenin reached the peak of her career for now last year by winning the Australian Open, and I am sure that if she puts everything into it, she can definitely get the job done again. Kenin had an amazing 2020 season, reaching the Final of Roland Garros but not being able to compete at her best due to injury issues. Kenin will have gotten her body and mentality at their peak before these tournaments, and I am sure we are all excited to see the defending champ get back to work in Australia.
Camilla Giorgi came through an easy straight sets victory over Burel in the first round, beating the Frenchwoman 6-4/6-3. Giorgi is very solid when she is playing her best tennis, and she has gone far into some big tournaments throughout her career. Most recently, however, we have not see much of the Italian. Will 2021 be the season she finally gets her name back in the later stages of tournaments, or will she fade in the background?
This is going to be the first meeting between both players. Unfortunately for Giorgi, this is going to be a straight sets Sofia Kenin victory. Kenin is an incredible talent, and she has such an amazing game. I have not seen as determined/passionate of a player on the WTA Tour in a while. Kenin fights for everything, and cares about every single point, no matter if its 0-40 down or 40-0 up. I expect a domination here by the young star, allowing her to reach the third round at the WTA Yarra Valley Classic. Sofia Kenin to win.
