Reilly Opelka meets Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second round of the 2021 Great Ocean Road Open on Wednesday February 3rd 2021. Will we see a serve dominant performance by the big American, or will we see an upset by Stakhovsky who has already gotten some strong competitive minutes under his belt here?

Sergiy Stakhovsky beat Roman Saffiullin in the first round in a very tight 3-set match. Stakhovsky had to come back from a set down in the match to win in 3 sets, 6-7/6-4/6-3. Stakhovsky did not play his best in my opinion, but was rather handed the match in the second and third set when Saffiullin was not putting in the same effort as he did in the first set. Sergiy will have to drastically improve his level in this second round match if he is to be competitive opponent for Reilly Opelka.

Reilly Opelka is definitely looking forward to the return of tennis, especially as it begins all on hard courts, the big swinging American's favourite surface. I believe that Reilly Opelka is a better version of John Isner, but he still has lots of work to do in terms of getting his movement a little big more up to speed. Opelka knows that if he is able to be a strong volleyer at the net, and move at a reasonable speed around the court, he can beat anyone who comes up against him. Will we see a new and improved version of Reilly Opelka in 2021, or will it take a little bit longer for his game to get to where it needs to be?

This is going to be the second meeting between both players, with Reilly Opelka leading the head to head 1-0. They met in 2016 where Opelka won the first set and Stakhovsky retired early in the second set. I expect this to be a domination by Reilly Opelka who is much much better than he was in 2016, and Stakhovsky is not really on his level. Reilly Opelka knows he can compete for the title here if he's playing his best, and he will cruise through this second round match.
