Jennifer Brady looks to prepare herself to make another Grand Slam Semi-Final as she gets her game on track at the WTA Grampians Trophy against Svetlana Kuznetsova in the first round on Wednesday, February 3rd 2021. Will Brady shine again as she did in New York, or will we see a shocking upset in the first round?
Jennifer Brady had a great 2020 season, a season which saw her make the semifinals of the 2020 US Open, in which she played in a 3-set thriller against the eventual champion, Naomi Osaka. Brady was always a lower tier player throughout her early career, but in recent years, she has put in the hard work and has shown that she is determined to become one of the best in the world. Brady is incredibly talented, and has a great overall game. Jennifer will want to ensure she is not just a one-tournament wonder, and she will definitely be preparing herself to put in a lot of effort at the Australian Open next week, but the work begins now.
Svetlana Kuznetsova has faded more and more into the background over the last few years as she has not been able to put up consistent results on the WTA Tour. Kuznetsova, on her day, can definitely challenge for the title in these smaller tournaments, however, her day is rare. Kuznetsova will be hoping for a much stronger 2021 season, but will she be ready to rise up the rankings from the get go, or will it take her some time to find her mojo?
This is going to be the second meeting between both players, with Kuznetsova leading the head to head 1-0. This is going to be a very interesting encounter, as I want to see how Brady plays right from the get go this year. If Brady comes out strongly, I am sure she can be a dark horse at the Australian Open. On the other hand, she meets Kuznetsova who is not an easy opponent. Both players will be able to win this match if they are playing at their best, but Brady should be able to come out on top and show us that she is the real deal in the WTA Tour.
