Third seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada faces unseeded Egor Gerasimov of Belarus in the Round of 16 at the Murray River Open in Melbourne, Australia. The match will take place on Thursday February 4th, 2021 at approximately 9:00pm EST. They have played three times in the past, with the young Canadian winning all three encounters. Will he continue this trend and advance to the Quarter-Finals, or can Gerasimov get his first win of the series?
Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada has long been considered a future top 5 player on the ATP Tour. Currently ranked 21, he has been as high as #17 before and is incredibly still only 20 years old. He has already had some top 10 wins in his young career and is very consistent at tournaments, but is still awaiting his breakthrough first ATP title win. He has a huge all around offensive game with a big serve, dominating opponents from the baseline. However, he can be very erratic at times and struggles to keep his focus. He was very impressive in his Second Round win over Yuichi Sugita, dominating with her serve en route to a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Egor Gerasimov is currently ranked 78 and will be seeking his first win over the young Canadian. A late bloomer, he is having the best few years of his career in recent times and is now 28 years of age. He has a very solid all-around game but lacks the major weapons to truly compete with the top players. He reached this stage by defeating Lloyd Harris and an impressive 3 set win over Marton Fucsovics in the Round of 16. He is exactly the type of player that can cause Auger-Aliassime issues if he is not fully focused and striking the ball well.
I am going with Felix Auger-Aliassime to win this match. He is one of the top young players in the world, and his career trajectory arrow is firmly pointing up. If he can figure how to utilize his tremendous talent fully, he can be a serious threat at all the big tournaments, including Grand Slams. When he is in form he can be very difficult to beat and that seems to be the case here. FAA to win.
