Third seeded Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime faces eighth seeded Dan Evans of Great Britain in the Final of the 2021 Murray River Open in Melbourne, Australia. The Final is scheduled to take place on Saturday February 6th, 2021 at 11:00pm EST. Surprisingly, they have never faced each other before on the ATP Tour. Who will get the victory and claim their first ATP Title?
Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada has long been considered a future top 5 player on the ATP Tour. Currently ranked 21, he has been as high as #17 before and is incredibly still only 20 years old. He has already had some top 10 wins in his young career and is very consistent at tournaments, but is still awaiting his breakthrough first ATP title win. He has a huge all around offensive game with a big serve, dominating opponents from the baseline. He has been in great form here in Melbourne and is building some serious steam ahead of the Australian Open where he is backed to reach the second week. Will this be the place he finally gets the breakthrough and claims his maiden ATP Title win?
Dan Evans is ranked #33 and is Britain's #1 player. He has been very impressive so far here in Melbourne, winning all four of his matches over Pedro Sousa, Marcos Giron, Jeremy Chardy and notably, Borna Coric all in straight sets. He has a very unique game style, varying the pace extremely well to unsettle his opponents. He has a good solid serve and his one handed backhand slice is excellent. He dominated Chardy in the Semi-Final 6-2, 6-2 and is also in search of his first ATP Title.
This has all the makings of a great match. FAA enters the match as the favorite and has the bigger game, but Evans has a wealth of experience and is an extremely intelligent player. His unorthodox style is sure to bother the young Canadian and it remains to be seen how he copes with the variety in Evans' game. All that being said, I am going to give the edge to FAA. If he can stay focused and patient, he should have enough power to overcome Evans. Felix Auger-Aliassime to get the win and his first ATP Title, more than likely needing three sets to do it.
