The final bout at the 2021 ATP Cup is here as we see doubles action between Evgeny Donskoy/Aslan Karatsev from Team Russia and Simone Bolelli/Andrea Vavassori from Team Italy. Will this be a deciding doubles bout, or will it be a less interesting bout as someone will have already gone 2-0 on the singles?
Team Russia will be looking to come into this match without needing to win it as they will be hoping to get their job done in the singles with incredibly strong players such as Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev. Evgeny/Donskoy only played once together this year at the ATP Cup and lost in a third set match tiebreak against Team Japan in what was an incredibly tight matchup. They will not be wanting to come in here having to get the job done, and if that ends up being the result, I am sure that this matchup will be replaced with Rublev/Medvedev instead.
Team Italy knows that they will be heavily reliant in their doubles action here as it is going to be much harder for them to go 2-0 in singles action, but perhaps they can get into this match 1-1 and give it a shot for the title through the doubles. For now, we have Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori scheduled to play, but if this match becomes a deciding doubles, I am sure this is going to be switched to Fabio Fognini and Matteo Berrettini to take their place.
This is going to be the first meeting between both teams, and I am adamant that this match is going to be a useless one in terms of winning. I believe Team Russia will get the job done in the singles to win the 2021 ATP Cup, and therefore they will not be very caring to put any effort into this match here, whilst Team Italy will just want to prevent the sweep and get one victory on the board. If this ends up being a deciding doubles encounter, and it is Rublev/Medvedev vs. Fognini/Berrettini, I would predict Team Russia to get the job done, but for now with the prediction of Team Russia winning the title through the singles matches, I will go with Team Italy in the doubles.
