Marie Bouzkova meets Elina Svitolina in the first round of the 2021 Australian Open on Tuesday, February 9th2021. Will we see the Svitolina of old which can compete with the best players in the world, and potentially throw her hat in the mix for the title here, or will Marie Bouzkova complete the upset here in the first round?
Marie Bouzakova is definitely a very solid player on the WTA Tour, and has already gotten lots of victories under her belt in 2021 with 15 wins. The issue in Marie’s game, is her consistency, alongside her 15 wins, she has also amassed 12 losses, which is what is preventing her from reaching the top eachalons of the WTA Tour. However, the Czech No.52 in the world, is still young as she is only 22 years old, and if she continues to improve, she will definitely be able to perhaps reach the top 30 in the WTA Rankings in 2021. Will she be able to come out strongly here and potentially cause an upset against Elina Svitolina, or will she have to find a bit more consistency before she can do so?
Elina Svitolina will be looking to get her mojo back as she enters the 2021 Australian Open. Svitolina has only played in one tournament this year, the Gippsland Trophy tournament last week where she went 3-1. Svitolina will know she can definitely win the Australian Open this year if she reached the level of play we have seen her play at over the last few years, but she will definitely need to slightly improve her game as she has been a bit rusty recently. However, if there is anyone who can get the job done in tough moments and on the biggest stage, it is Elina Svitolina.
This is going to be the third meeting between both players, with the head to head tied at 1-1. Bouzkova’s victory against Svitolina came through a walkover as Svitolina was injured, therefore it is not as serious of a win. This match is definitely going to be a tight one, but I believe that Elina Svitolina will come out here very determined to show everyone that her name should be in our mouths when we are discussing who can contend for the Australian Open this year. Elina Svitolina to win.
