Daniil Medvedev (4) meets Filip Krajinovic (28) in the third round of the 2021 Australian Open on Saturday, February 13th 2021.
Will we see another dominant display by Daniil Medvedev here, or will Filip Krajinovic be able to put on a solid performance here to cause what would be a shocking upset?
Filip Krajinovic came through a 4-set victory over Pablo Andujar in the second round, beating Pablo Andujar 6-2/5-7/6-1/6-4. Filip Krajinovic has not been playing his best tennis, compared to what we had seen from the Serbian star in early 2020. However, Krajinovic should never be underestimated on the ATP Tour as he can beat some of the best players on the tour, such as Andrey Rublev on his day. Will Filip Krajinovic be able to take down one of the toughest players in the world at the moment, who is on a 16 match winning streak in Daniil Medvedev?
Daniil Medvedev absolutely dominated his second round match here, beating the Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets 6-2/7-5/6-1. Medvedev is just in incredible form at the moment, having won his last 16 matches, 10 of which came against top 10 players. Medvedev, in my opinion, should be considered the favourite for the tournament here, and if he continues to improve as a player, he will be the favourite for many more Grand Slams in the future. However, will Medvedev be able to beat a very tricky and frustrating opponent in the third round in Filip Krajinovic?
This is going to be the second meeting between both players, with Filip Krajinovic leading the head to head 1-0. They last met in the third round of the 2019 Indian Wells Masters 1000, where Krajinovic beat Medvedev in straight sets 6-3/6-2. Since then, Medvedev has been on a demolition path, becoming one of the best players in the world, and being nearly unstoppable on the tennis court. Medvedev will want to come out here very strongly, get the job done and book his spot in the fourth round of the 2021 Australian Open on his quest to win his maiden slam in 2021.
