Elina Svitolina (5) meets Jessica Pegula in the fourth round of the 2021 Australian Open on Monday, February 15th 2021.
Will we see yet another dominating performance by the no.5 seed Elina Svitolina here, or will Jessica Pegula be able to cause what would be a shocking upset in the fourth round?
Jessica Pegula met Kristina Mladenovic in the third round here at the Australian Open, beating the Frenchwoman in straight sets 6-2/6-1. Jessica Pegula has been in incredible form here, and she was extremely dominating in that third round match. Pegula is in unknown territory here, and she is definitely going to be very excited for making it this far into a Grand Slam tournament, but now its when the real work starts. Will Jessica Pegula be able to put on another strong performance, especially as she meets one of the toughest players to beat at the moment, Elina Svitolina?
Elina Svitolina has been in cruise control here at the 2021 Australian Open, and in the third round she met Yulia Putintseva (26), beating the Kazakh in straight sets 6-4/6-0. Svitolina is playing some of the best tennis we have seen from her in a while, and it is great to have her back at her best. Elina knows that she can definitely win the title here this year, but she will need to maintain her composure and ensure she continues playing her best against even tougher opponents further in the tournament draw, such as Ashleigh Barty and Elise Mertens.
This is going to be the second meeting between both players, with Elina Svitolina leading the head to head 1-0. They met just over a month ago in the first round of the Abu Dhabi Open, where Elina Svitolina won in straight sets 6-4/6-3. I expect this to be a very tight match, as both players have been on top of their game recently, but this should also be a match which the more in form Elina Svitolina should come through. I believe Elina Svitolina will be one of the favourites for the title this year, and she will show us in this match as well.
