Day two of the 2021 Open Sud de France continues with some exciting matches. These matches will be played on Tuesday February 23rd, 2021 in Montpellier, France. Below we preview some of the day's top matches.
Jan-Lennard Struff vs Peter Gojowczyk - Eighth seeded Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany faces his countryman Peter Gojowczyk in the First Round. They have played each other eight times on the ATP Tour with Struff winning six of those matches. They are both powerful baselin players with big serves. Struff has been in better form of late, with some impressive showings at the ATP Cup and Gojowczyk finds himself out of form, over 100 spots away from his career high in the rankings. Struff is traditionally a slow starter but expect him to get the win here without much trouble.
Pick - Jan Lennard Struff
Andy Murray vs Egor Gerasimov - A thrilling match awaits us between Andy Murray of Great Britain and Egor Gerasimov of Belarus. Andy Murray is a former number one that is slowly making his way back into form after some terrible injuries. Now ranked 121, he skipped the Australian Open due to COVID-19 concerns but had a successful week, reaching the Final at a Challenger event. Gerasimov is ranked higher than Murray at 83 but is coming off a disappointing Australian Open campaign. Expect a hotly contested match between two very solid baseliners. I expect Murray to get the win as he is in better form and his experience should see him through here.
Pick - Andy Murray
Jannik Sinner vs Aljaz Bedene - Teenage sensation #5 seed Jannik Sinner of Italy faces Aljaz Bedene in the First Round. They have played three times before with Bedene winning two of those matches, however Sinner won in straight sets a few weeks ago in Melbourne. Considered one of the brightest young talents in world tennis, Sinner is equipped with all the tools to be a top five player and it is only a matter of time before he gets there. Bedene is no slouch and should not be taken lightly, but expect the young Italian to win in straight sets.
Pick - Jannik Sinner
