The Quarter-Final Round is here at the 2021 ATP Singapore Open on Friday February 26th, 2021 starting at 2:00am EST. Below we preview the four matches;
Alexei Popyrin vs Matthew Ebden - An "All-Aussie" matchup awaits between Alexei Popyrin and Matthew Ebden. Popyrin advanced by virtue of a three set win over Adrian Andreev while Ebden was very impressive, upsetting fourth seeded compatriot John Millman in straight sets. Ebden has had very inconsistent form of late and has not had much success while Popyrin has finally been displaying signs that he is ready to fulfill his immense potential. Popyrin to win in two close sets.
Pick - Alexei Popyrin to win
Adrian Mannarino (1) vs Radu Albot (6) - This match should be a very exciting one between two flashy baseline players. Both players are coming off poor 2020 seasons and will be highly motivated to start this year off well. Albot came through a tough three setter over Yannick Hanfmann while Mannarino will be the fresher of the two, beating Roberto Marcora routinely. I expect this to be a close match but Mannarino should have a bit too much firepower for Albot who doesn't really have any weapons.
Pick - Adrian Mannarino to win
Marin Cilic (3) vs Soon-Woo Kwon - Former US Open Champion and third seed Marin Cilic faces Korean Soon-Woo Kwon in the Quarter-Finals. Cilic sadly has seen his career on the decline over the past few seasons however his serve remains a force to be reckoned with and should not be taken lightly. Kwon has been very impressive this year and won the Challenger event in Biella last week so has momentum on his side. While he is a very solid baseline player and has a good return, I don't think that he has the firepower to defeat Cilic here. It may be tight with a tiebreaker or two, but expect Cilic to win.
Pick - Marin Cilic to win
Alexander Bublik (4) vs Yoshihito Nishioka (5) - In the pick of the Quarter-Final matches, Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan faces Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka. This should be a very entertaining match between two top 60 players. Bublik is one of the most talented and flashy players on the tour while Nishioka is the opposite, very steady and focused. Bublik has much more firepower and has the ability to hit through his opponent but it is hard to tell if he will be focused on any given day. The result really depends on him. If he is committed he wins, if not he loses. It's as simple as that. That being said, he has seemed motivated this week and it is hard to go against him here.
Pick - Alexander Bublik to win
