Stefanos Tsitsipas (2) meets Hubert Hurkacz in the second round of the 2021 Rotterdam Open on Thursday, March 4th 2021.
Will Stefanos Tsitsipas continue to dominate in his matches here as we saw in his dominant first round performance, or will Hubert Hurkacz be able to cause the upset here and book his spot in the second round?
Hubert Hurkacz put on a very solid performance in the first round, beating the always tough Adrian Mannarino in straight sets 6-3/7-6. Mannarino is always a tough opponent as he has a great serve and his lefty game is so unorthodox compared to the other lefties on the tour. Hurkacz, however, was able to match Mannarino and even go beyong what Mannarino was capable of on Tuesday, eventually breaking him down and getting the match done in straight sets. Hurkacz is also in great form in 2021, having won a title already this year in Delray Beach. Will Hurkacz be able to cause the upset against such a tough opponent in Tsitsipas here?
Stefanos Tsitsipas came through a very tough but strong performance in his first round match, beating Egor Gerasimov (SE) in straight sets 7-6/7-5. Tsitsipas loves playing in these indoor hard court conditions and he is always amazing to watch when he is also in form. Tsitsipas will definitely want to win here this week as it means we would rise up to 5th in the world and continue edging closer to a top 3 spot where he believes he should be. Tsitsipas’ flamboyant playing style, as well as his confidence will all serve him well in achieving his goals, but can he prevent an upset here in the second round?
This is going to be the 7th meeting between both players, with Stefanos Tsitsipas leading the head to head 5-1. I expect this to be a very tight match which both players can get hold of if either one of the opponents is not playing their best. However, going off of recent performances in Australia, I have to definitely back Stefanos Tsitsipas to come out on top here. Tsitsipas is more experienced, has beaten some of the best in the world, and is very determined to have a huge 2021 season. Steafsnos Tsitsipas to win.
