Stefanos Tsitsipas (2) meets Karen Khachanov in the quarter finals of the 2021 Rotterdam Open on Friday, March 5th 2021.
Will Karen Khachanov be able to cause the upset here in this quarter final, or will Stefanos Tsitsipas reach one-step closer to his first title of the season here in Rotterdam?
Karen Khachanov put on a very solid performance in the second round, cruising through his match against Cameron Norrie in straight sets 6-2/6-2. Cameron Norrie is always a tough opponent to come up against, but Khachanov was able to take advantage of anything which was handed to him on Wednesday night. Khachanov is gaining some confidence and I am sure that his performances here will help him improve his tennis level in 2021, perhaps to even reach the heights we saw him play at in 2018. Khachanov now faces Stefanos Tsitsipas, will he be able to cause the upset against the no.2 seed?
Stefanos Tsitsipas came through a very tight 3 set victory against Hubert Hurkacz in the second round, beating the Pole 6-4/4-6/7-5. Stefanos was in control of all of his service games except for one in the second set which gave Hurkacz an in into the match. However, Tsitsipas was able to maintain his composure on his serve, serve his games fast, and ensure his full focus was on returning the Hubert Hurkacz serve. Tsitsipas knows that this is going to be one of the easiest chances for him to win an ATP 500 tournament this year as it is only him and Andrey Rublev remaining out of the top 8 seeds. Can he take advantage of it?
This is going to be the 3rd meeting between both players, with Stefanos Tsitsipas leading the head to head 2-0. This is definitely going to be a tight match as both players are in great form. However, going off of who is more confident, and who is willing to put more into a match when everything is on the line, I have to go with Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas to win and book his spot in the semi finals against most likely Andrey Rublev.
