Stefanos Tsitsipas (2) comes up against Andrey Rublev (4) in the semifinals of the 2021 Rotterdam Open on Saturday, March 6th 2021.
Who will make their way to their first ATP Tour Final of the year? Will it be the No.2 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, or the King of ATP 500s, Andrey Rublev?
Stefanos Tsitsipas came through a very tough match on Friday, beating Karen Khachanov in 3 sets 4-6/6-3/7-5. In my opinion, Karen Khachanov was the better player throughout the match, but a few points from Tsitsipas which he was lucky to see fall in gave him the victory. Khachanov played great and one of his best matches he has played in a very long time. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, should have cruised through the match if he was at his best. Tsitsipas is going to have to increase his level drastically if he is to get anything out of his next opponent, Andrey Rublev, in the semifinals on Saturday.
Andrey Rublev put on a great performance on Friday against Jeremy Chardy, beating the Frenchman in straight sets 7-6/6-7/6-4. Rublev did have a lapse of play at the beginning of the second set, but he was able to get himself back on track quickly and regain control of the match. Andrey Rublev is looking to win his 4th ATP 500 tournament in a row, and the Russian is on an 18 match winning streak at this level of the game. Can Rublev get the job done here in this semifinal and book himself in the Final on Sunday which he would most likely win due to the lack of competition in the other half of the draw?
This is going to be the 7th meeting between these two, with the matches being split equally 3-3. They always put on great battles when they meet, but at the moment, I believe that Andrey Rublev is in much better form than Stefanos Tsitsipas. Tsitsipas is not playing his best and has been pushed to the limit in his last two matches. Rublev has been cruising through his matches and playing the big points extremely well. Andrey Rublev to win.
