Fourth seeded Ugo Humbert of France faces unseeded countryman Arthur Rinderknech in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Marseille Open ATP event. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday March 12th, 2021 at 1:50pm EST.
Will it be the impressive young star Humbert advancing to his first ATP Semi-Final of the year? Or can the Qualifier Arthur Rinderknech spoil the party and cause yet another stunning upset?
Ugo Humbert is currently ranked a career-high #31 in the ATP rankings and has had a mixed start to the year. He has struggled to string consistent results together and will be hoping to build on his strong start here. He defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Round of 16 in an almost flawless performance, serving extremely well and dictating play from the baseline. A very talented player with a big game, the only thing stopping him from climbing further up the charts is himself. If he can put everything together and harness his talent he could be a future top 10 player. He enters this match as the huge favorite and will expect to advance to the Semi-Finals.
Arthur Rinderknech has had a fantastic week so far at the 2021 Marseille Open. After qualifying, he defeated Mikhail Kukushkin in the First Round, before upsetting seventh seed Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina in the Round of 16. Currently ranked #138, he has been having a good year on the Challenger Circuit, and will be hoping that this week is the turning point in his career. He served extremely well, winning 87% of first serve and serving 13 aces. He will have to serve at least equally well against Ugo Humbert if he is to even make this a close match and enters as a massive underdog. He is playing inspired tennis however, and cannot be taken lightly.
While Arthur Rinderknech is playing some great tennis this week, his run will come to an end here. Ugo Humbert is ranked 100 spots above him in the world rankings for a reason and it would be a huge shock to see anything other than a straight sets win. Ugo Humbert to win and advance to his first Semi-Final here at the Marseille Open.
