Roberto Bautista Agut (5) meets Nikoloz Basilashvili in the Final of the 2021 Doha Open on Saturday, March 13th 2021.
Will Nikoloz Basilashvili be able to achieve his fourth ATP Tour title, or will Roberto Bautista Agut win his 10thand 2nd in 3 years here in Doha as these two players clash on Saturday?
Roberto Bautista Agut put on a great performance in the semi finals on Friday, beating the heavy favourite Andrey Rublev in 2 sets 6-3/6-3. Roberto has so much experience playing in these conditions, and he loves playing in Doha, having won the title in 2019. RBA knows that this is going to be a great chance for him to win the title this year as the competition now that he knocked out both Thiem and Rublev is quite scarce. Will RBA be able to beat the rejuvenated and in form, Nikoloz Basilashvili, to win his 10th career title and 2nd in Doha on Saturday?
Nikoloz Basilashvili has been playing some great tennis here in Doha, beating Roger Federer in an incredible and shocking upset in the quarter finals, and then beating Taylor Fritz in straight sets 7-6/6-1 in the semi finals. Basilashvili knows he has struggled over the last year with match wins and he will be very happy with the way he has been playing here in Doha. Nikoloz will know that this is going to be one of the best opportunities for him to win another title as he is not meeting either Thiem or Rublev, but he will still have to be wary of the man who knocked those two out of the tournament, Roberto Bautista Agut.
This is going to be the 5th meeting between both players, with RBA leading the head to head 3-1. I expect this to be a straight forward victory for RBA being completely honest. Yes, Basilashvili has played some great tennis, but he has not shown the consistency on tour that RBA has in recent times. RBA has beaten two top 10 players back to back, and I believe he will make easy work of Nikoloz Basilashvili here to take his 10th career title in his second Final of 2021.
