Roberto Bautista Agut (4) meets Matthew Ebden (SE) in the second round of the 2021 Dubai Open on Tuesday, 16th March 2021.
Will RBA be able to bounce back after a very tough and shocking loss in the Final of the 2021 Doha Open last Saturday, or will Matthew Ebden be able to continue causing upsets as he did all of last week in Marseille?
Matthew Ebden had a very solid week last week in Marseille, reaching the semi finals of the tournament after causing an upset against Karen Khachanov coming back from a set down. Ebden had to retire however in the semi final in the second set against Medvedev due to injury. I believe that he will have now focused on recovering and ensuring he is on top of his game as he enters the Dubai Open. Will Ebden be able to recover both the energy from travelling, and have enough time to get his body in shape from that injury before he meets RBA on TBU?
Roberto Bautista Agut will be very upset after losing the 2021 Doha Final when he was the heavy favourite entering the match. RBA was the best player all week in Doha, knocking out Thiem and Rublev, the two title favourites, and he was deserving of winning the title in my opinion. However, this time, it did not go his way in the Final. RBA should still hold his head high and use this as motivation to continue playing strongly and showing everyone that he should not be underestimated on the ATP Tour. Will RBA go far here in Dubai?
This is going to be the third meeting between both players, with RBA leading the head to head 2-0. Unfortunately for Matthew Ebden, I just do not see him being ready both physically and mentally in this match. Ebden will have to travel to Dubai on Saturday night, get used to the time zone, and get his body in shape after getting injured on Saturday. On the other hand, RBA will have to travel a minimal distance from Doha to Dubai and is in great physical shape. RBA to win in straight sets.
