Fifth seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria will face unseeded Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Acapulco Open in Mexico. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday March 17th, 2021 at 9:20pm EST.
This is set to be a very exciting encounter between two top 50 players in the world rankings. Can the unseeded Miomir Kecmanovic cause the upset? Or will it be the fifth seeded Dimitrov advancing here at the Acapulco Open, a tournament he has won in the past?
Grigor Dimitrov is currently ranked #17 in the world and is a former top five player. He had been in disappointing form for a few years but has recently improved, slowly getting back to his best. Now ranked inside the top 20, he will have his eyes firmly set on returning to the top 10. He has started very well here in Acapulco, a tournament that he won in 2014. He was leading 6-4, 3-0 over a very tough opponent in Adrian Mannarino when the Frenchman was forced to retire due to injury. Dimitrov has been very impressive this year and enters this match as the strong favorite.
Miomir Kecmanovic is currently ranked #42 in the world and is one of the rising young stars of the ATP Tour. He enters this tournament with some decent momentum, reaching the Semi-Finals in Buenos Aires last week. However, that was a clay court event and will hold little bearing on this match apart from giving him some confidence. The young Serbian was impressive in his First Round win over Feliciano Lopez, who is still a very dangerous opponent on hard courts. He won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 and will have taken a lot of confidence from this victory. He has displayed that he is able to compete with the world's best, and will not back down from the challenge here.
This will be the first meeting between the two players and it has the potential to be a very close one. Both men are in very good form, and have similar game styles. While Kecmanovic is a very solid player on this surface, I think that Dimitrov's experience will be key here, and he should be able to come away with the win. It wouldn't be a surprise to see this go the distance, but expect Grigor Dimitrov to win here and advance to the Quarter-Finals here at the 2021 Acapulco Open.
