Fourth seeded Milos Raonic of Canada faces unseeded German Dominik Koepfer in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Acapulco Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday March 17th, 2021 at 8:00pm EST.
Will Koepfer be able to spring the upset? Or will the highly favored Milos Raonic get the win here and advance to the Quarter-Finals?
Milos Raonic is currently ranked #19 in the ATP world rankings and is a former top 5 player. He will undoubtedly have his sights firmly set on returning to the top 10, and has had an impressive start to the year so far in 2021. He was impressive in his First Round win over American Tommy Paul, winning in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. As expected, he dominated with his serve and will be looking to do more of the same here in the Round of 16 against Dominik Koepfer. When Raonic is serving well he is able to compete with the very best, and unfortunately for the German, he is looking in fantastic form here in Acapulco.
Dominik Koepfer is a very solid baseline player, currently ranked #71. He has had a poor start to the year in 2021, with this being just his third appearance in the Second Round of a tournament. While his First Round win will have given him some much needed confidence, we cannot read too much into it as it was over Gerardo Lopez Villasenor, a Wild Card ranked outside the top 500. Koepfer enters this match as the huge underdog given his form, and it will take a huge effort to even keep this close here. Milos Raonic seems very determined here and will be very difficult to beat.
Given Koepfer’s poor form, there is nothing to suggest that this will be anything other than a straight sets win for the Canadian. Milos Raonic is one of the best players in the world on this surface, and if he continues serving as he has been, will be one of the main favorites to life the title here in Acapulco. He is well rested having not played since the Australian Open and is seemingly back to his best. Milos Raonic to win in straight sets.
