Lloyd Harris of South Africa faces Wild Card Andy Murray in the First Round of the 2021 Miami Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday March 24th, 2021 at a time yet to be determined.
This is sure to be a very exciting encounter between a former world number one and an in-form young player. Who will come out on top and advance to the Second Round here at the 2021 Miami Open?
Lloyd Harris is currently ranked #52, which is a career high for him. He has been in fantastic form so far in 2021, highlighted by a Semi-Final performance in Adelaide, and a Finals appearance last week in Dubai, losing to Aslan Karatsev. He announced himself on the world stage with that performance in Dubai, upsetting top seed Dominic Thiem and Denis Shapovalov en route to the Final. He has a very strong serve and powerful groundstrokes, and will be looking to attack Murray from the baseline. He enters this match as the favorite and will be highly confident of advancing here given the huge momentum that he has built up after the Dubai Open.
Andy Murray is currently ranked #119 and has been struggling in his return to the ATP Tour. At one stage it was thought that he would never play again, so he will be very happy to be at this stage, still playing some solid tennis. A former world number one, he has had a lot of success here in Miami, having won the title in 2009 and 2013. He is still a very good player, but his movement is not what it once was and he has struggled with consistency since his return. With a poor 1-2 record so far at ATP level in 2021, he will be looking to turn his season around here.
Despite Murray being a former champion here, I expect Lloyd Harris to win this match. He is in tremendous form, and confidence is sky high. While someone with Murray's experience can never be counted out, it would take a huge effort for him to defeat Harris in this current form, something I don't think he is capable of at the moment. It would not be a shock if Murray were to win here, but the most likely outcome is a win for Lloyd Harris in what is sure to be an exciting match. Lloyd Harris to win and advance to the Second Round here at the 2021 Miami Open.
