Andrey Rublev (4) meets Tennys Sandgren in the second round of the Miami Open on Saturday, March 27th 2021.
Will Andrey Rublev bounce back after an extremely tight encounter against Aslan Karatsev last week in the semi finals of the 2021 Dubai Open, or will Tennys Sandgren be able to cause a shocking upset here in Miami and make his way through to the third round?
Tennys Sandgren was able to come through his first round match by beating Pablo Martinez in 2 sets, 6-4/2-0 due to Martinez retiring. Sandgren loves playing in these conditions and he will be very confident coming into this second round match with the way he is playing. However, he is also going to be very wary with who he has to face in the second round, Andrey Rublev. Sandgren will have some promise as he saw Rublev lose last week when he was the heavy favourite, however, he will also have to ensure he is on top of his game from start to finish in this match if he is to cause the upset here?
Andrey Rublev is looking to bounce back after his first loss in 24 matches at an ATP 500 tournament, having lost in the semi finals of the Dubai Open to his fellow Russian Aslan Karatsev. Rublev must be tired having competed deep into tournaments for 3 weeks in a row now, and now having to make his way here in Miami and ensure he is on top of his game from start to finish. Rublev is still one of the best in the world at the moment, but how long can he keep this up physically?
This is going to be the second meeting between both players, with Andrey Rublev leading the head to head 1-0. Although Sandgren had a good match in the first round, and perhaps Andrey Rublev will be tired from playing a lot of tennis in the last 3 weeks, I still see Andrey Rublev coming out on top of this match in straight sets. Rublev knows that if he is to get a shot at the title here, he needs to minimize his time on court. He will do just that by winning in straight sets.
