Elina Svitolina (5) meets Petra Kvitova (9) in the fourth round of the 2021 Miami Open on Monday, March 29th 2021.
Will Elina Svitolina be able to play her best tennis with a potential injury on her right-wrist, or will Petra Kvitova be able to outpower Svitolina and book her spot in the quarter finals?
Elina Svitolina came through an extremely tight 2 set victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova in the third round, winning 7-6/6-4. Svitolina is getting better after starting off rusty here in Miami, but she is still not where she needs to be for when she meets tougher opponents. Svitolina needs to find that consistency and she needs to be in the best physical shape. Svitolina will want to come out here and give it her best shot but she will have to ensure she is on top of her game as she meets a very tough opponent in Petra Kvitova.
Petra Kvitova met Johanna Konta in the third round, beating the Brit in 2 sets easily 6-1/6-2. Petra Kvitova seems to be absolutely on top of her game at the moment and she has been cruising through her matches here in Miami. Kvitova will know that if she is able to get herself in control of matches early, she has a very strong chance of making her way to the Final. Kvitova has a massive serve, and she is able to move quite quickly around the courts here in Miami. Will Kvitova beat the higher seeded player in this fourth round match?
This is going to be the 7th meeting between both players, with Petra Kvitova leading the head to head 5-1. Although Elina Svitolina is the higher ranked player at the moment, she is just not where she needs to be in terms of her playing style as she has been a bit lacklustre. Kvitova has been on top of her game all week, and she is cruising through her matches against tough opponents. I see this being a tight match, but one which Petra Kvitova comes out on top and books a spot in the quarter finals.
