Seventh seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista-Agut faces eighteenth seed John Isner of the United States in the Round of 16 at the 2021 Miami Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday March 30th, 2021 at 11:00am EST.
This is sure to be an exciting encounter between two veterans of the ATP Tour. Who will win and advance to the Quarter-Finals?
Roberto Bautista-Agut is currently ranked #12 in the world and is known as one of the most fierce and consistent performers on the ATP Tour. Armed with very solid, flat groundstrokes, he is ultra-consistent from the baseline and gives very little away. He has been in mixed form so far in 2021, and will be hoping for a deep run here. He received a Second Round walkover when his opponent Lloyd Harris withdrew due to injury, and battled from a set down to defeat Jan-Lennard Stuff in the Third Round. The Spaniard will know that he will have to be much improved here against the big serving American and enters this match as the slight favorite.
John Isner is currently ranked #28 in the world and is a former top 10 player. A former champion here in 2018 and finalist in 2019, he has fond memories here in Miami and despite his lack of match practice so far in 2021, will be confident of victory here. He started slowly here in Miami, needing three sets to defeat Mackenzie McDonald in the Opening Round. He then beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Third Round in a very impressive performance. While he is the slight underdog here, he can never be counted out due to his huge serve and will be hopeful of victory here.
This is set to be a very exciting match between the two very experienced players. Bautista-Agut has the big advantage from the baseline but Isner is sure to dominate with his serve. It is a near certainty that there will be at least one tiebreaker in the match, and it will be a close match. I am giving the edge to Roberto Bautista-Agut here. He is slowly regaining his form and while he will struggle with the Isner serve, he should eventually work his way into the match and edge a very close win. Roberto Bautista-Agut to win and advance to the Quarter-Finals here in Miami.
