Top seeded Daniil Medvedev will face seventh seeded Roberto Bautista-Agut in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Miami Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday March 31st, 2021 at approximately 8:30pm EST.
This is set to be a blockbuster Quarter-Final here at the 2021 Miami Open. Two of the best baseliners in world tennis square off in what is sure to be a very entertaining match for tennis fans. Will it be the top seeded Daniil Medvedev advancing to the Final? Or can the Spaniard cause the upset?
Daniil Medvedev has cemented his place among the best players on the ATP Tour, reaching a career-high #2 in the world rankings. He has been in mixed form so far here at the 2021 Miami Open, struggling in the Third Round against Alexei Popyrin before coming away with the win in a very tight three set match that he almost threw away. He was much improved in his Round of 16 win over Frances Tiafoe, serving extremely well and limiting his unforced errors. When he is in form he is extremely difficult to beat with his elite defensive game, and enters this match as the firm favorite.
Roberto Bautista-Agut is currently ranked #12 in the ATP world rankings and is known as one of the fiercest competitors on the tour. With his aggressive flat groundstrokes, he is very difficult to defeat on this surface, especially since he gives very little away. He has been in fine form here at the 2021 Miami Open, especially in his three set thriller against John Isner. He displayed tremendous resilience to win that match, even saving a match point in the process. While he enters this match as the underdog, he will definitely be backing himself to win here.
This is shaping up to be a very close match. I would normally give Medvedev the huge advantage, but he has not quite looked himself here at the 2021 Miami Open and if he was to have one of those mental lapses that he did against Popyrin, an experienced player like RBA would take full advantage. The Spaniard has numerous top 10 wins under his belt and certainly won't back down from a challenge. Despite his struggles, I am going with Daniil Medvedev to win here. He is known to start slowly at times and has gradually improved here. It certainly won't be easy and I expect it to go the distance, but the Russian will win here and advance to the Semi-Finals at the 2021 Miami Open.
