Third seeded Casper Ruud of Norway will face unseeded Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Andalucia Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday April 9th, 2021 at 11:30am EST.
This is sure to be a very exciting match between two of the top young players on the ATP Tour. Casper Ruud has established himself in the top 30 of the ATP rankings and is one of the top clay courters in the world. 17 year old Carlos Alcaraz is considered a tremendous prospect and has had a fantastic start to his young ATP career. Who will get the win and advance to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Andalucia Open?
Casper Ruud is currently ranked #26 in the world but has had a rough start to the 2021 season. After a strong performance at the Australian Open, he suffered with injuries and has hardly played any tennis since. He was impressive in his Round of 16 win over Gianluca Mager, a player that had beaten him before. Ruud was able to control the match from the baseline, and was particularly impressive with his return game, which was the big difference in the match. Despite the obvious rust he enters this match as the favorite and will be hard to beat here.
Carlos Alcaraz is considered by many to be a future top five player. It is hard to argue with that assessment due to the success he has had so far in his career. He upset the #6 seed Feliciano Lopez in the Round of 16 to reach his first ATP Quarter-Final, and his confidence will be at an all-time high. With his polished and mature baseline game he is very difficult to beat on this surface, and despite being the underdog he has a good shot at winning here due to the momentum that he has built. Can he stun the third seed here at home?
Despite not playing many matches recently, I am going with Casper Ruud to win here. He is simply a better player than the youngster at the moment, and his experience will prove crucial here. Alcaraz may sneak the first set but I fully expect Ruud to figure it out and eventually grind his way to a tough win, advancing to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Andalucia Open.
