Lorenzo Musetti meets Laslo Djere in the quarter finals of the 2021 Sardegna Open on Friday, April 9th 2021.
Will Lorenzo Musetti continue to shine and make his way deep here in Sardegna as he looks to win his first title on home soil or will Laslo Djere be able to use his experience to cause the upset?
Laslo Djere put on a very composed performance in the second round, beating John Millman in straight sets 6-3/6-3. Djere is a very solid player on his day, and he definitely prefers playing in these clay-court conditions rather than hard-court. Djere has experience in these small ATP 250 tournaments and he will need to utilise all of this as he meets a very tough up and coming superstar in Lorenzo Musetti. Will the Serbian be able to teach the young gun that he still has a long way to go, or will he be packing his bags?
Lorenzo Musetti came through a very tight second round match against the highest ranked player here in Sardegna in Daniel Evans, winning in 3 sets 6-1/1-6/7-6. The third set was extremely tight and Musetti saved 4 match points to eventually get the win. Musetti knows that he is playing the best tennis of his young life at the moment and he will need to definitely keep this up if he wants to win the title here in Sardegna as the field only gets tougher and tougher from here. How will the young Italian fare here?
This is going to be the second encounter between both players, with Laslo Djere having won their only prior encounter. They met in 2020 when Musetti was nowhere near the level he is nowadays, and I am very sure that the outcome of this match is not going to be the same as their last. Lorenzo Musetti is one of the best youngsters of the moment and he will give it his absolute best here as he wants to win his maiden title on home soil. It will be a tight match, but at the end of the day, Musetti will get the job done.
