Pablo Andujar has been going on a downwards spiral over the last couple of years, not really making any inroads in any ATP 500 or bigger tournaments. Nowadays, Andujar’s focus is mainly in ATP 250 and Challenger Tour tournaments which help him get some victories here and there under his belt as his quality is no longer at the level it needs to be to achieve some big victories in big tournaments on the ATP Tour. How will the Spaniard fare against his fellow compatriot who is probably the best shape of his life at the age of 33 years old?

Roberto Bautista Agut has been able to reach the later stages of basically 75% of tournaments he has played in this year, and he will definitely want to keep this momentum going as he is at the top of his game. Last week, in Monaco, RBA was able to dominate the field and eventually lose in an extremely tight encounter against Andrey Rublev which he was not disappointed in losing, especially as Rublev was able to beat Nadal just one day later. RBA will be very confident here in Barcelona, and I am sure he will go far in many more tournaments.

This is going to be the 3rd meeting between both players, with RBA leading the head to head 2-0. There is just no way this match goes the way of Pablo Andujar who is just nowhere near the level required to even put his name alongside RBA in 2021. RBA is just on another level and he is a player who will make you work for everything. I expect this to be a tight encounter just because they are both Spaniards and will put on a show for the crowd, but other than that, RBA will win.
