Eighth seeded Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia will face Argentinian Facundo Bagnis in the First Round of the 2021 Serbia Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday April 20th, 2021 at 7:20am EST.
This is yet another good First Round matchup here at the 2021 Belgrade Open. Kecmanovic is much higher ranked but has been in poor form recently, while the Argentine Bagnis has been very impressive. Will Kecmanovic get the win and advance to the Round of 16 here at home? Or can the Argentinian veteran cause the upset here in Belgrade?
Miomir Kecmanovic is considered one of the top young players on the ATP Tour, and has been hugely impressive over the past couple years. However, he is been in poor form recently, losing in the First Round in three out of his previous five tournaments. After an impressive start to the year he started working with Argentine legend David Nalbandian, a partnership that was expected to have instant dividends. However, his form has dropped shockingly since then and will be hoping to kick start his career here at home. Possessing a very strong all around game, he is capable of good tennis on clay courts, but his confidence will have taken a beating.
Argentine veteran Facundo Bagnis has been a late bloomer on the ATP Tour, but has been in fantastic form of late. After a very impressive run in the South American tournaments, he arrives in Europe high in confidence, with his consistent baseline game a serious weapon on this surface. While he enters this match as the underdog, he has been in much better form than his opponent lately and is certainly capable of the upset here.
While this looks like a very difficult match on paper for the young Serbian, I expect him to win this match. There is no denying that he has been poor lately, but he has the uch stronger game and I believe that he will grind out a win here. Bagnis is a very good player but lacks that extra gear that his opponent has. If Kecmanovic can put his recent form behind him, he should advance here in a very tight match.
