Sebastian Korda of the United States will face Serbian Aljaz Bedene in the First Round of the 2021 Serbian Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday April 21st, 2021 at 1:00pm EST.
This is perhaps the pick of today's matches here in Belgrade, between two very strong players. Will the veteran Bedene get the win and advance to the Round of 16 here at home in Serbia? Or will the impressive young star Sebastian Korda continue his great form in 2021?
Aljaz Bedene is a very solid veteran player who has had some success on clay throughout his career. In recent times he has improved greatly on the faster surfaces, most notably finding success indoors, and his clay results have suffered. He possesses a strong serve, good movement and is a very consistent baseline player. He is the type of player with no real weaknesses, but doesn't give too much away. He enters this match as the underdog against the promising Korda, but is more than capable of winning, especially at home.
Sebastian Korda is the son of former Australian Open champion Petr Korda, and has been making waves on the ATP Tour this year. He has claimed numerous big scalps this season and seems poised to make his leap into the top 50 of the world rankings soon. The youngster has a big game, and is only getting better. While he was thought to be more of a hard court player, he has been very impressive on clay this year, compiling a 15-5 record. Due to his exploits this year he enters this match as the favorite, and will be hoping to go deep into the draw here at the 2021 Serbia Open.
This has the potential to be a very exciting match, and promises to be full of great tennis. Both men are capable of getting the win here, and it is a shame that they are meeting so early in the tournament. While Aljaz Bedene is a very solid player, I think that Sebastian Korda will win this match. The young star has impressed with his big game and maturity this year, and will almost certainly be near the top of the rankings soon if he keeps his solid play up. Expect a close match, with Korda prevailing in the end.
