Andrey Rublev (3) meets Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the third round of the 2021 Barcelona Open on Thursday, April 22nd 2021.
Will Albert Ramos-Vinolas beat a Top 10 player as he looks to show that he is actually a very strong player on clay, or will Andrey Rublev have a much better match than his second round match?
Albert Ramos-Vinolas was able to come through a quite tight 2-set victory over the experienced Frenchman, Adrian Mannarino, in the second round, winning 6-4/6-4. Albert is a very solid player in clay conditions, with many forgetting that he reached the Monaco Final in 2017 and he has also been very consistent in 2021, reaching the later stages of many clay court tournaments. Albert will want to use his experience to take him far here at the Barcelona Open, but he will have to raise his level a lot if he is to actually get anything against Rublev.
Andrey Rublev, although he cruised through his second round match 6-4/6-3 against the lucky loser Federico Gaio, was having a bit of a nightmare in terms of his temper out on court. Rublev began the match without any rackets as the stringer had a delay, and had to play with another racket which saw him make some big errors and just not feel his best around the court. Once his rackets came, however, Rublev was back at his best and dominated the remainder of the match as we all expected him to after his incredible week last week in Monaco.
This is going to be the 4th meeting between both players, with the Andrey Rublev leading the head to head 2-1. Andrey Rublev will come into this match and I am very sure he will be ready right from the start unlike his first match here in Barcelona. Although Albert has a lot of experience, he just does not have the game to keep up with Andrey and his amazing shot power. I expect this match to perhaps have some long sets, but Rublev will win due to his amazing game which we have seen in the last 2 years.
