Stefanos Tsitsipas (2) meets Jannik Sinner (11) in the semi finals of the 2021 Barcelona Open on Saturday, April 24th 2021.
Will Jannik Sinner make it two top 10 wins in a row and a 3rd final this year, or will Stefanos Tsitsipas make it two finals in two weeks and potentially a second title as well?
Jannik Sinner beat the very in form, but also very tired, Andrey Rublev in the quarter finals, beating him in straight sets 6-2/7-6. Jannik was able to keep constant pressure on his opponent and this was the reason why he won as he felt really energised and ready for the task at hand. Jannik Sinner is a star of the future, and I am very sure that he will make his way to many more late stages of tournaments, and definitely win many as well, if he continues playing at this extremely high level.
Stefanos Tsitsipas was more handed the match against Felix Auger-Aliassime in my opinion than he actually deserved to win it. FAA was strong in the match, but he was unable to convert his chances, and this hurt his mentality. Tsitsipas was winning most of the points off of cheap errors, and I did not see him really control the match as you would expect him to do. Stefanos Tsitsipas has been playing a lot of tennis as well, having won 8 matches in just over a week, and I expect that he will be feeling it physically here in the semi finals.
This is going to be the 3rd meeting between both players, with their head to head split equally. They have always met on clay and I am sure we are in for a very tight encounter as both of them can put on a show in big matches. However, I think that the young Italian will have the edge in this match. Tsitsipas will be more tired, will be frustrated with the continuous pressure from Sinner, and I expect this to be a tough match mentally for the Greek. Jannik Sinner will win and make his way to the Final.
