Roberto Bautista Agut (9) meets Marco Cecchinato (Q) in the first round of the 2021 Madrid Open on Tuesday, May 4th 2021.
Will Marco Cecchinato cause one of the biggest upsets in his career over the last 2 years, or will Roberto Bautista Agut continue to be very consistent on the ATP Tour in 2021?
Marco Cecchinato is slowly but surely improving on the ATP Tour, showing us that perhaps he still has something to give on the main tour and that he has not been demoted down to only playing in Challenger Tour tournaments, but he is still going to have to raise his level if he is to be competitive consistently as the ATP Tour is continuously becoming tougher and tougher for anyone trying to stay at a very high level. Will Marco Cecchinato be able to get his level up and cause the upset to shock everyone?
Roberto Bautista Agut will want to put on some very solid performances here in Madrid to show the Spanish fans that he is one of the best players out there on the ATP Tour in 2021. RBA had a tough week in Barcelona a couple weeks ago, losing to a player he has still not found the key to beating, Jannik Sinner. RBA is one of the toughest players to play as he is so consistent in returning the ball deep into the court, and ensuring he will wear you down and force you into mistakes. Will RBA bounce back in Madrid?
This is going to be the second meeting between both players, with RBA having won their only prior encounter. They met 3 years ago, and since then, their forms have gone in two different directions. RBA is much better than Marco this year, and he will want to show that he is here to dominate on the ATP Tour in 2021. Marco can definitely compete here, but he is nowhere near the level he used to be at, at which he could have definitely caused the upset and shocked us all. RBA to win and make his way to the second round.
