Iga Swiatek vs. Kaja Juvan
May 31, 2021 12:00 pm EDT
Iga Swiatek (8) meets Kaja Juvan in the first round of the 2021 French Open on Monday, May 31st 2021.
Will Kaja Juvan be able to knock out the defending champion here in the first round which would shock everyone or will Iga Swiatek come out here ready to show that she is still the top dog on clay over the last year as she has won 3 big titles on clay and she is still only 19-years-old?
Kaja Juvan is in a bit of a slump in the last few weeks, going 0-3 in her last few matches and she is now entering the French Open and she is going to have to raise her level so drastically if she is able to get anything going against the defending champion here in Iga Swiatek who has been in great form in 2021. Kaja is experienced for her young age, but unfortunately for her, she is still nowhere near the level required to be able to compete with top 10 players on the WTA Tour.
Iga Swiatek is coming off of her 3rd title victory of her young career, winning the Rome Open in amazing fashion in straight sets in the final 6-0/6-0. Iga Swiatek is at home on clay, and we might be seeing the start of the Queen of Clay if she is able to retain her title here at the French Open this year. Iga Swiatek is able to move so fast around the court, and she hits so big that her opponents are constantly under pressure on both their service and return games. Can Swiatek start her campaign off strongly?
This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Iga Swiatek having won their only prior encounter. I expect for Iga to come out here and dominate this match as this is clay and Iga is in her element in these conditions. Kaja Juvan will not be able to hang with her as she does not have as much big stage experience even though she is older than Swiatek. Swiatek will continue to dominate and show everyone that she is the player to beat here at the French Open and no one should think different.
