Sofia Kenin vs. Jelena Ostapenko

Sofia Kenin (4) meets Jelena Ostapenko in the first round of the 2021 French Open on Monday, May 31st 2021.
Which of these two former French Open lovers will come out on top? Will it be the 2017 champion or the 2020 Finalist? This is definitely going to be a tight encounter between two tough fighters on the WTA Tour who do not know the meaning of taking it easy during a match.
Jelena Ostapenko will want to give herself a chance of recreating the success she had here in 2017 where she won it all. However, Jelena has had a lot of issues with confidence, behaviour, injury, and consistency over the last 4 years. Jelena, when at her best, is so hard to beat because she fights for everything and tires her opponents out so much. However, I am sure that here at the French Open she will want to show us her tennis of old and put on a show.
Sofia Kenin is one of the best youngsters on the WTA Tour, having won a grand slam title in her career and reached the final of the French Open last year where she was not able to play at her best due to having lots of injuries on her legs all throughout the tournament. Kenin has struggled with form in 2021, and she needs to be able to get herself through some tough opponents to give herself some momentum and confidence. However, a draw against Ostapenko in the first round is not something she wanted for sure.
This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Jelena Ostapenko having won their only prior encounter. Jelena Ostapenko is a grand slam champion, and in 2021 she has been in better form to be honest, which is unexpected. Kenin has not been able to find the consistency she had in 2020 and I am unsure that if she plays at her current level she will not be able to beat Ostapenko who seems determined. Jelena Ostapenko will win and show us all that she is still around to fight against big name players.
