Will Rebecca Peterson be able to knock out the defending champion in style in such an early round here or will Iga Swiatek come out here and dominate as she has been known to do over the last year on clay as she is just levels above the vast majority of the WTA Tour field on her best day?

Rebecca Peterson put in a shift on Monday to beat the much better American, Shelby Rogers, in 3 sets 6-7/7-6/6-2. Rebecca Peterson was able to come through a very tight second set tie break and that turned the match on its head for Shelby Rogers. This shows how being able to come through tight moments, even if you are the worse player, can help you gain the necessary momentum to cause an upset. However, Peterson will have to be even better here in the second round if she is to get another big win under her belt.

Iga Swiatek dominated in her opening match here, destroying Kaja Juvan in 2 sets 6-0/7-5. Iga just loves to hand bagels to players on clay, and she will see this match as both a great way to dominate, but to also come through tight moments in that second set. Iga will be very determined to defend her title here in Paris, and if she continues to play like she has for the last 3 weeks, I am sure she will do just that as if she is able to get to the Final, no one on the other side of the draw can even compete with her as they are not as good on clay.

This is going to be the 1^st meeting between both players, and I see this being an absolute cruise for Iga Swiatek in straight sets. Iga is just on another level when it comes to clay, and I see her coming out here ready to give it her best, and Rebecca Peterson will not be able to keep up with her consistency from the start to the end of the match. Rebecca will have to hope for the highest level she has ever played, but even with that, I don’t see her standing a chance here.
