Matteo Berrettini vs. Soonwoo Kwon
June 5, 2021 11:00 am EDT
Matteo Berrettini (9) meets Soonwoo Kwon in the third round of the 2021 French Open on Saturday, June 5th 2021.
Will the South Korean, Soonwoo Kwon, shock everyone and upset the very in form Matteo Berrettini, or will Berrettini be able to get another solid win under his belt here in Paris as he looks to show us that he is deserving of being a top 10 player?
Soonwoo Kwon beat Andreas Seppi in the second round in 3 sets 6-4/7-5/7-5. This was a strong performance from the South Korean as he was able to back up a big win in the first round against yet another experienced opponent. Soonwoo is a strong player when he is at his best, but he is still nowhere near the level of many players, such as Matteo Berrettini, in the ATP Tour. Soonwoo will have to raise his level drastically, but he will definitely be confident in himself and his ability to ruffle some feathers.
Matteo Berrettini has been in great form over the last few months since he returned from his injury, and he showed us again here in Paris in the second round beating Federico Coria in 3 sets 6-3/6-3/6-2. Matteo Berrettini will be very happy with his performances in the last few months, and I am sure he will continue to look to improve his game throughout the tournament. Berrettini will try to use all of his power, expertise, and determination to cruise through yet another match here in Paris.
This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and unfortunately for the South Korean, I don’t see him getting anything out of this match. Matteo will not want to waste time on court and have to lose some momentum which will not aid his campaign in showing everyone how good he is on all surfaces. Matteo will come out here ready to give it his best from start and until the end to get this match under his belt in straight sets as he knows he can do from his momentum recently since he returned from injury.
