Rafael Nadal vs. Cameron Norrie
June 5, 2021 1:00 pm EDT
Rafael Nadal (3) meets Cameron Norrie in the third round of the 2021 French Open on Saturday, June 5th 2021.
Will Cameron Norrie get the most shocking win of his career under his belt as he aims to beat Nadal, or will Nadal come out ready to cruise through another opponent as he aims to keep his record breaking title hopes alive here in Paris?
Cameron Norrie put on a very strong comeback performance in the second round, beating Lloyd Harris in four tight sets 4-6/6-3/6-3/6-2. Cameron Norrie is often underrated by both other players and journalists, but the Brit is a very strong player who knows how to win matches which he should not be winning. However, if he wants to win this match, I can’t even imagine the level at which Cameron Norrie needs to be playing at to be causing the biggest upset in tennis over the last 5 years.
Rafael Nadal destroyed Richard Gasquet in the second round, beating the Frenchman in 3 sets, 6-0/7-5/6-2. Rafael Nadal is just another type of player whenever he played here in Paris, and he is always going to be the toughest player to beat when comparing his game to other players on their favourite surface. Nadal will want to continue dominating here in Paris so that he can get himself in even better form as he looks to get himself ready for the later stages of this tournament.
This is going to be the 3rd meeting between both players, with Nadal having won their only 2 prior encounters. They met only a month ago in Barcelona where Nadal won easily in 2 sets. I expect for this match to be the same with Nadal coming out ready to dominate as usual, getting the match under his belt in 3 sets and making his way to the fourth round of the French Open as he looks to get closer and closer to the title and the bigger stages of the tournament where he needs to be at 100% especially as this side of the draw is extremely tough as it features all of the Big 3.
