Iga Swiatek vs. Marta Kostyuk
June 7, 2021 1:00 pm EDT
Iga Swiatek (8) meets Marta Kostyuk in the fourth round of the 2021 French Open on Monday, June 7th 2021.
Will the defending champion continue dominating through the draw as she looks to double her grand slam tally or will Marta Kostyuk come out here ready to cause a huge upset and get herself into the quarter finals in Paris?
Marta Kostyuk put on a dominant display in the third round, beating Vera Gracheva in 2 sets 6-1/6-2. Marta Kostyuk has definitely made a name for herself here in Paris already, beating some former grand slam champions like Muguruza, but now that we are in the business end of the tournament, she will have to raise her level even more if she is to get anything going against the remaining players in the draw, especially against the defending champion who has been in tip top shape all tournament and year on clay.
Iga Swiatek beat Anett Kontaveit in the third round in 2 sets 7-6/6-0. Another Swiatek match, another dominant performance. Swiatek just seems to be in great form on clay, being able to dictate play and make her opponents have to over hit, and when they are faced with a good return, they are instantly into a defensive position. This allows Swiatek to dominate, and she will want to continue this domination as she is getting closer and closer to defending her title here in Paris and cement herself higher up the rankings.
This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and unfortunately for Marta Kostyuk, I do not see her getting anything going against Iga Swiatek here. Iga Swiatek find another level on clay in general, and when her back is pushed against the wall she finds even more. She is a fighter and she has so much talent, and she will not want to give it up against a much lower ranked opponent when she is focused on getting another grand slam at such a young age and cement herself as one of the best youngsters and players in the WTA Tour over the last 2 years.
