Rafael Nadal vs. Diego Schwartzman
June 9, 2021 3:00 pm EDT

Rafael Nadal (3) meets Diego Schwartzman (10) in the quarter finals of the 2021 French Open on Wednesday, June 9th 2021.

Will Diego Schwartzman cause the biggest upset of his career by defeating the King of Clay in his best ever tournament, or will Rafael Nadal be able to get yet another win over Diego as he looks to keep his title run dreams alive in Paris?

Diego Schwartzman came through an extremely tight encounter in the fourth round, beating the big hitting German, Jan-Lennard Struff, in 3 extremely tight sets 7-6/6-4/7-5. Diego was down bad in the first set, but was able to fight back, and then when he was up a lot in the third set, he had to fight to not lose the set when Struff was making a mini-comeback. Diego will be very happy with his performance, but he will know it will need to be even better in the quarter finals as he now meets the one and only Rafael Nadal here in Paris.

Rafael Nadal showed us what he is all about in the fourth round, beating the very in form and talented Italian, Jannik Sinner, in 3 sets 7-5/6-3/6-0. Rafael Nadal just plays at such a high level when on clay, and when here in Paris. Rafael Nadal will be very happy with that performance, and he will also be happy with the fact that Novak Djokovic performed so bad for a long time in his match as well, showing that he is still the top dog in this tournament. Will Rafa cruise through this quarter final and get himself one step closer to his 14th French open title?

This is going to be the 12th meeting between both players, with Diego only ever having won 1 match against Rafael Nadal. Nadal just knows how to play Diego, especially on clay, and he will do the exact same here I believe. Diego is in great form and he is definitely a tough player to beat when he is on clay, but he is still nowhere near the level of tennis required to beat such a great in Rafael Nadal in his tournament where he has won the most trophies he has ever won in one single place.
