Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alexander Zverev

Fifth seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece will face sixth seeded German Alexander Zverev in the Semi-Finals of the 2021 French Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday June 11th, 2021 at 8:50am EST.

A huge battle is expected as two of the main contenders for the crown here at Roland Garros do battle in the Semi-Finals. Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev were both considered contenders for the title here at the French Open and they have certainly lived up to that billing by reaching the Semis in dominant fashion. They have ruthlessly come through the draw, hardly putting a foot wrong throughout. Who will get the win and advance to their first ever French Open Final?

Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings and is the fifth seed here at Roland Garros. The Greek star has had an exceptional year so far in 2021, and has perhaps been the most consistent performer, leading the Race to Turin. Tsitsipas has only lost one set so far in his path to the Semi-Finals, and has built some serious momentum heading into this match against Alexander Zverev. While he is considered the slight favorite here, the match is really a toss up and he will have to be at his absolute best to get the win here.

Alexander Zverev is ranked one spot below his opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas at #6 and is seeded sixth here at the 2021 French Open. Other than a very slow start to his opening match against countryman Oscar Otte, the German has hardly put a foot wrong and is also in fantastic form. Like Tsitsipas, he won one of the clay court Masters-1000 events in Madrid and entered Roland Garros as one of the favorites to challenge Rafael Nadal. While he does not quite have the offensive firepower as his opponent, his defence is world class and will be extremely useful here. While he has been outstanding so far, he will need to be better than he was in his Quarter-Final win over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina where he was sloppy at times.

This will be the eighth match between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Stefanos Tsitsipas dominating the head to head 5-2. The two men entered the tournament in great form, and are playing at a very high level, making this match almost too close to call. I expect a fierce battle which will likely go the distance, and I am picking Stefanos Tsitsipas to win this match. He has been a bit more solid than Zverev so far here at Roland Garros, and has shown the ability to remain calm in tense situations. It really can go either way so I think the safest bet is for both players to win a set, but I will go with the more consistent Greek to win advancing to his first French Open Final.
