Fourth seeded Russian Andrey Rublev will face unseeded Jordan Thompson of Australia in the Round of 16 of the 2021 Halle Open in Germany. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday June 16th, 2021 at 6:20am EST.

Russian superstar Andrey Rublev has firmly established himself as one of the best players in the world in recent years. He has dominated the ATP-500 circuit over the past two years and has finally started to make his mark in the bigger tournaments. The one surface that he is yet to perform on is grass, can he continue his good start here in Halle? Or can the unfancied Australian Jordan Thompson cause the massive upset?

Andrey Rublev is the number seven player in the world and is the fourth seed here at the 2021 Halle Open. The Russian had been having yet another strong season in 2021 but was surprisingly defeated in the First Round of the French Open. He will be eager to get his season back on track with a strong performance here in Halle, and started well, defeating countryman Karen Khachanov in straight sets in the First Round. While he has not had much success on grass so far in his career, his attitude and powerful groundstrokes are serious weapons on this surface and the top 10 player should be considered the favorite here against Jordan Thompson.

Jordan Thompson is currently ranked #81 on the ATP Tour and is unseeded here at the 2021 Halle Open. Once ranked in the top 50, he has been having a poor season this year with a losing record. Thompson is a very solid player but lacks the weapons that can trouble the top players, and has a poor record on grass. He played very well during his opening round victory over Daniel Altmaier but his next opponent Andrey Rublev will be a much more difficult task for the Aussie and he enters as the underdog here.

This is an easy match to predict, and Andrey Rublev will win in straight sets here. Quite simply, he is a much better player than Jordan Thompson at this stage in their careers, and I expect him to dominate this encounter. Rublev has never had much success on grass, but he has matured greatly as a player and shouldn’t have many issues advancing to the Quarter-Finals here in Halle.
