Queen’s Open: Denis Shapovalov vs. Frances Tiafoe 6/18/21 Tennis Prediction

Second seeded Canadian Denis Shapovalov will face Frances Tiafoe of the USA in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Queen’s Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday June 18th, 2021 at 11:00am EST.

Can the unseeded American Frances Tiafoe continue his strong grass court form with an upset win over the second seed Denis Shapovalov? Or can the Canadian star get the win and advance to the first grass court Semi-Final of his career?

Denis Shapovalov is the second seed here at the 2021 Queen’s Open and is currently ranked #14 in the ATP world rankings. The Canadian star has been looking more and more comfortable on the grass since his Quarter-Final run in Stuttgart, where he lost to eventual champion Marin Cilic. He defeated veteran Feliciano Lopez in the Round of 16 for the second consecutive week, but this time it was comfortable, 6-2, 6-3 in hardly more than an hour. In this type of form he must be considered the favorite against Frances Tiafoe, but should not underestimate his opponent who is also in good form.

Frances Tiafoe is currently ranked #65 in the world and is unseeded here at the 2021 Queen’s Open. He has seemingly already gotten comfortable on the grass, having won the challenger title in Nottingham last week. With his big game he is always a threat on any surface when playing well, and he has started strongly so far here at the Queen’s Open, defeating Aljaz Bedene and Viktor Troicki to reach this stage. While he is the underdog here against Denis Shapovalov, in this form he will be very dangerous and certainly has an outside chance of winning here.

This is a tough match to call. Frances Tiafoe is a much better player than his ranking of #65 suggests, and he is in good form at the moment. Despite this, I expect Denis Shapovalov to prove too strong for the American here. He is looking increasingly more comfortable on the grass and I think he will have just enough to advance to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Queen’s Open.
