Matteo Berrettini vs Dan Evans
June 18, 2021 12:00 am EDT
Top seeded Italian will face sixth seed Dan Evans of Great Britain in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Queen’s Open. The match is scheduled for Friday June 18th, 2021 at 8:20am EST.
Can local player Dan Evans cause the massive upset here on home soil by knocking the number one seed out of the tournament? Both him and his opponent Matteo Berrettini have been in great form so far here on the grass at the 2021 Queen’s Open, who will get the win and advance to the Semi-Finals?
Matteo Berrettini is the number one seed here at the 2021 Queen’s Open and is ranked #9 in the ATP world rankings. The Italian #1 has been in fantastic form so far this year, and will seek to continue that momentum into the grass court season. While he has never had much success on the surface, his game is well built for it with his big serve and dominant groundstrokes which will allow him to control matches from the baseline. After receiving a bye in the First Round, he defeated local hero Andy Murray 6-3, 6-3 in impressive fashion. He enters this match against yet another Brit in Dan Evans as the favorite, and is expected to get the win and advance to the Semis here.
Dan Evans is the British number one, and is ranked #25 in the ATP world rankings. He is a veteran of the ATP Tour and is known as a very consistent player, and one who has recently began to break out on the circuit. After reaching quite a few finals without success, he finally won his first title at the Murray River Open, and had a very surprising run to the Semi-Finals at the Monte-Carlo Masters on clay. He began his Queen’s campaign with a strong win over Alexei Popyrin and followed it up with yet another straight sets win over Adrian Mannarino. While he is the underdog here against Matteo Berrettini, his unconventional style is sure to make things difficult for the Italian and he should not be taken lightly.

This will surely be an interesting match, but one that I expect the Italian star Matteo Berrettini to win. Dan Evans has a very solid game, and his backhand slice is sure to make things uncomfortable for his opponent, but Berrettini is simply too good at the moment to lose here. I expect two tough sets in the match, with the Italian passing the test and advancing to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Queen’s Open.
