Pablo Carreno Busta vs Sam Querrey
June 29, 2021 7:00 am EDT
Pablo Carreno Busta (11) meets Sam Querrey in the first round of the 2021 Championships on Tuesday, June 29th 2021.
Which of these two players will be able to get the win under their belt after they both performed well in Mallorca last week? Will it be the big swinging American or the tactical and great moving Spaniard to get a big win?
Pablo Carreno Busta showed some good tennis in Mallorca last week, proving to people that he can compete on grass a lot better than we expected. Pablo Carreno Busta is always hard to beat on any surface, so if he is able to keep this level of play up on grass, he will have a good time here at Wimbledon. However, Pablo has been drawn against an opponent who loves these conditions in Sam, so if he is to get the upset under his belt, he will have to raise his playing level even more against the big hitting American.

Sam Querrey will be happy with the tennis he played in Mallorca, showing us some of the best tennis we have seen from him in such a long time on tour. He reached the Final and although he did not win the title, he will be much more confident in his game than if he did not reach it. Querrey will know he won’t have an easy road from the get go here in London, but he can definitely compete if he plays like this. How far can the American go and get himself far into the tournament?
This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Pablo having won their only prior encounter. If this was clay I would have chosen Pablo to win this match hands down. However, grass is so much more receptive to Querrey’s game style. The hard hitting forehand and serve of the American is hard to return, and this will put pressure on Pablo. Querrey will feel freer to play his best tennis here and this will allow him to get the win under his belt and get to the second round.
