Roberto Bautista Agut vs Denis Shapovalov

Eighth seeded Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut will face tenth seed Denis Shapovalov in the Third Round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The match is scheduled to be played on Monday July 5th, 2021 at approximately 7:15am EST.

An intense match is expected as Roberto Bautista Agut battles Denis Shapovalov for a spot in the 2021 Wimbledon Quarter-Finals. Both men have been outstanding so far at Wimbledon and this really is shaping up to be a huge battle. This can seemingly go either way, who will get the win and advance to the Quarters here at Wimbledon?

Roberto Bautista Agut is one of the most consistent players on the ATP Tour, and is usually a sure bet to go deep into tournaments. The world number ten has played great tennis so far here at Wimbledon, and is attempting to reach the Quarter-Finals here for the second straight year. RBA struggled to start the tournament here and had tough wins John Millman and Miomir Kevmanovic before a straight sets win over Dominik Koepfer. He does have a weak serve which can be an issue on grass, however his powerful, flat groundstrokes are very difficult to cope with on this quick surface. If he can hold serve consistently he should be slightly favored to win here over Denis Shapovalov and will be backing himself to advance.

Denis Shapovalov is the tenth seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is the world number 12. He has matured greatly as a player over the past few seasons and broke into the top 10 for the first time last year. Other than winning Junior Wimbledon, the Canadian has never really achieved much on grass and not much was expected of him here, but he has been impressive here. After a tough introduction with a five set win over Philipp Kohlschreiber in the First Round, he received a walkover in the second but it was his Third Round win over Andy Murray that was most impressive. He tuned out the Center Court crowd to win comfortably in straight sets, a confidence boosting win that will serve him well here for his match against Roberto Bautista Agut.

This will be the first time that RBA and Shapovalov have faced each other on the ATP Tour, and it is sure to be a huge battle. They have contrasting styles and have both been outstanding here at Wimbledon. It is really difficult to pick a winner as this can really go either way, but I am learning with Denis Shapovalov here. He is playing with confidence and his big serve will allow him to win free points that the Spaniard won’t. He will have to keep his unforced error count low to get the win, but with his newfound maturity that seems to be something that he can handle. Roberto Bautista Agut is a very seasoned campaigner and he won’t go away quietly, but I think Shapovalov will win a tough five setter here, advancing to his first ever Wimbledon Quarter-Final.
