Ashleigh Barty vs Alja Tomljanovic
July 6, 2021 9:00 am EDT
Ashleigh Barty (1) meets Alja Tomljanovic in the quarter finals of the Wimbledon on Tuesday, July 6th, 2021.
Will we see a huge upset happen as Alja Tomljanovic aims to make a bigger name for herself and rise up the womens rankings, or will Ashleigh Barty continue to perform as if it is business as usual in the hopes of winning her second grand slam title?
Alja Tomljanovic will be extremely confident with her game after having come so far here in London, having beaten Emma Raducanu in the fourth round in 2 sets, 6-4/3-0. Alja is performing well above expectations here and she will want to keep this up, but she will have to ensure she is ready to perform at her highest level so quickly after that match. Alja now meets the most in form player of the tournament in my opinion in Ashleigh Barty and if she wants to cause the upset, she will need to come out here and play the match of her life.
Ashleigh Barty put on a superb performance against the French Open champion, Barbora Krejcikova, in the fourth round, not letting anything go past her easily and beating her in 2 sets 7-5/6-3. Ashleigh is just on another level than anyone else this tournament, showing extreme consistency throughout her matches. Ashleigh knows that she does not want to waste time on court because the further you go in the tournament, the more energy you need to recover. Therefore, Barty will want to ensure she does the same against Alja and gets this done easily.

This is going to be the 1st meeting between both players, and although Ashleigh will want to get this done quickly, I think it will be a tight match. Ashleigh is the more experienced one, the favourite, and the better player on all surfaces, but this is going to help Alja in my opinion as she will not have any expectations of winning, but rather she will come out here and just enjoy the moment. When players do this, they often play their best tennis without realising and I see this happening here. Aljas best tennis still wont get her the win, but it will allow her not to be demolished.
