Hall of Fame Open: Jordan Thompson vs. Maxime Cressy 7/16/21 Tennis Prediction

Seventh seeded Jordan Thompson of Australia will face unseeded American Maxime Cressy in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Hall of Fame Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday July 16th, 2021 at approximately 2:20pm EST.

An interesting match is expected as Jordan Thompson faces the unique and big serving Maxime Cressy in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Hall of Fame Open. The Aussie is much more experienced and higher ranked than the young American, who is very much a wild card at this stage in his career. Can Cressy spring yet another upset here in Newport and advance to the first ATP Semi-Final of his career?

Jordan Thompson is the seventh seed here at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open, and is currently ranked #71 in the ATP world rankings. The Australian is a very solid player who usually has consistent but unspectacular results. The Aussie has been outstanding so far here in Newport, and is yet to drop a set in either singles or doubles (where he is in the Semi-Finals). After a convincing win over Yuichi Suguita in the Round of 16, a match where he only lost two games, he will certainly have one eye on the Final here. He enters this match against Maxime Cressy as the heavy favorite, but will know that that the American is very hit and miss, so he will have to be extra careful here.

Maxime Cressy is unseeded here at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open, and is ranked #155 in the ATP rankings. The big American had never won an ATP match on grass before this event in Newport, but he has impressed, defeating Paolo Lorenzi in the First Round before stunning the in-form Sam Querrey in the Round of 16, a former Wimbledon Semi-Finalist. The huge serving American has a very unique game, and has won a lot of fans by his habit of serve and volleying on every point. While he is the underdog here against Jordan Thompson, if his serve is clicking he can certainly make it very interesting and will be full of confidence after his massive upset win over Querrey.

This will be the first match between the two players, and I do expect it to be a very interesting one. It is a tough one to predict due to Cressy’s inexperienced yet explosive game, and the fact that the solid Aussie Jordan Thompson is not quite comfortable on the grass. Despite the huge gap in their rankings, I think that Maxime Cressy will push the Aussie to the limit, and I am expecting three sets in the match. Ultimately though, I am backing Thompson to scrape through with a very hard fought three set win here, advancing to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open.
